Bexhill is soon to be the centre of some exciting growth opportunities. The new link road opened last month and will open up a gateway of land along its path, between Bexhill and Hastings, providing two thousand new homes, a 500,000 sq ft business park (with the first building taken up) and a countryside park. To provide the transport infrastructure, the Government has committed to support the delivery of the High Speed 1 javelin trains to run from London St Pancras to Hastings and Bexhill. We believe that there will be a large growth in the area from these infrastructure initiatives.
Local organisations have come together to present a Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair to be held at the iconic De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. This initiative comes out of the desire to help develop skills in the region, acknowledging recent growth in a range of sectors including, but not limited to, healthcare, financial services, food & hospitality right through to software development and the wide range of creative industries.
Partners coming together to help deliver this event include Bexhill Town Team, Chamber of Commerce & Tourism, the Federation of Small Business, Bexhill College, Sussex Coast College, Bexhill Jobcentre Plus, Rother Voluntary Action, Rother District Council, Creative Café and the De La Warr Pavilion. The event is community led and not-for-profit.
Huw Merriman, Member of Parliament for Bexhill and Battle, said: “As an MP, delivering jobs for local people is a key priority for me. I am delighted to be working with our community partners to establish our first Jobs and Apprentices Fair. I have invited scores of businesses and the response has been exciting, indicating that businesses are interested in growing locally. We aim to show them that Bexhill is a town worth investing in.”
Stewart Drew, CEO and Director of DWLP said “The De La Warr Pavilion are keen to foster links between culture, the creative industries, business and education. We have been thrilled by the interest and support from a wide range of partners who have come together to support this initiative in Bexhill. The town is showing the green shoots of growth, and we should maximise on this to inspire the next generation of employees, business leaders and entrepreneurs.”
Martin Riley, President of Bexhill Chamber of Commerce, added "This project is central to continued Growth in Bexhill. There are excellent businesses looking to employ local talent - and we have local talent keen to find work with those businesses. This project aims to increase the links between the two; helping develop and retain our young talent, and giving local businesses the key skills they require."
The Lets Do Business group are supporting us, lending their knowledge and experience in this area, and Locate East Sussex have confirmed that they will be one of the headline partners of the event.
Bexhill’s Jobs & Apprenticeship Fair is aimed at young people (16 – 24 year olds) looking for employment or apprenticeship opportunities, but will also be open to all ages looking for career opportunities.
The event will be held on Friday 29th April and is being supported by Huw Merriman MP for Battle & Bexhill, who is taking a proactive role in helping to organise the event.
Launched at the Bexhill Chamber of Commerce and Federation of Business Breakfast on 22 January, there is now an open call for businesses to be involved.
Businesses must be actively offering jobs, apprenticeships, and volunteering opportunities in our region or be interested in providing workshops, training or careers advice.
