This week I was pleased to join the All Party Parliamentary Group for Breast Cancer for a discussion with the Health Minister, Steve Brine, and the Chief Executives of Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now about cancer treatment and prevention. The meeting coincided with the release of the new report 'Good enough? Breast Cancer in the U.K.'.
The meeting heard that over 50,000 women and around 350 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, making it the most common cancer in the UK. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and the good news is that survival rates continue to grow. Building on this, the report calls for more to be done to improve patient access to preventative drugs for breast cancer, provide earlier diagnosis and improve access to breast cancer treatments. I am looking forward to working with this cross-party group of MPs to help work towards these goals.
