In response to an announcement from the Business and Energy Minister that almost 40% of electricity generation in the UK came from renewable energy sources in the last quarter of 2018, Huw took to the chamber to speak on the positive impact of the government’s energy policy: “whilst I’ve got no time for those that deny climate change” he said, “I’ve also got little time for those that deny that great progress has been made.”
“Isn’t it important,” he continued “that we actually listen and work with our scientists and innovators that can improve this picture rather than just listening to those that lie down on the street.”
The Minister said consumption emissions were also down 20% since 1997 and renewed calls for the UK to take on a leadership role to help inspire other countries to change to a low carbon electricity system.
