Constituents have written to me about the pressure on our health and social care system. It is the case that we have challenges in the constituency and across the nation. With an ageing population for us to look after, it is vital that we have the funding and reform of the system to meet increased demands and deliver new treatment and innovation. The Labour opposition tabled a motion on Health and Social Care on Wednesday 11 January. This was debated in the House of Commons. I spoke on behalf of my constituents. Speakers from all sides of the House made understandable party political points on the matter. For my own contribution, I focused on new ideas which would be capable of being considered regardless of the political make-up of the Government. Due to having spoken more times than any other speaker in the debate, I was last to speak hence the time was reduced. I used the remaining time to focus on health reform. A change in approach, and joint working, is needed to both the Health and Social Care system to deliver one pathway for our vulnerable constituents.

I hope that this will act as a response to constituents who sent me emails via campaign organisations such as 38 degrees.
