The new Transport Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyn, today appeared before the Transport Select Committee for the first time since her appointment last month. The committee discussed a wide range of topical transport issues with the Secretary of State, including rail, aviation, smart motorways and new infrastructure.
I also used this an opportunity to raise the issue of pavement parking with her. This is something I have long called for action on, and a 2019 report published by the Transport Committee called for a nationwide ban to be introduced. Despite repeated assurances, this has so far not been implemented. It was encouraging to hear the Secretary of State's views on pavement parking, and the shared pavement space more generally, and I am optimisitic that change can be achieved. I will continue to press for action here.
